----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Front-loaded
The indices were still going in the right direction but the rate of improvement has slowed.

There was very little capesize activity to report but a back haul grabbed a very strong $41,000 a day.

The panamax spot market was buoyant with one front haul going high but another a little lower, while the Atlantic continued to perform well.

------------------------------------------
Capesizes (Index 78.075 USD/dagen)

Cargill spent $41,000 a day to shift the 161,200-dwt Iron Queen (built 1986) from China to Europe.

In the period market Louis Dreyfus came up with $39,000 for 11 to 13 months with the 174,200-dwt CHS World (built 2006).

-----------------------------------------
Panamaxes (Index 32.879 USD/dagen)

Sino East put down a whopping $46,000 per day for the 80,400-dwt Lucky Sunday (built 2007) to take a front haul via the US. The 72,600-dwt Khorasan (built 2000) is also doing a fron haul but via the Baltic at $39,000.

Cargill and Cobelfret each booked roundtrips on the Atlantic/Baltic side at $40,000 a day. The former has the 82,300-dwt Ore Hansa (built 2006) via West Africa and the latter the 76,300-dwt Atlantic Breeze (built 2004) to the Baltic.

Rates were weaker elsewhere but still very good. Two units were booked from the Indian Ocean to China at $35,000 a piece, Oldendorff getting the 65,200-dwt GO Faith (built 1984) and someone else the 71,700-dwt Jag Arnav (built 1995).

There were also a couple of Pacific roundtrips at $30,500 a day, BHP taking the 73,600-dwt Cemtex Venture (built 2006) and Triumph the 70,000-dwt Jin Pu Hai (built 1996).

Morgan Stanley has largely been absent from the period market this year but spent $22,000 a day on 11 to 13 months with the 76,500-dwt Ecosand GO (built 2008). The US bank also holds a one year option at $23,500 pointing towards slightly better times ahead.

GMI spent a huge $36,000 daily for four to six months with the 76,300-dwt Maritime Baqui (built 2006) whereas Grand China only had to find $28,000 for the same term with the 74,000-dwt Goldbean Trader (built 2001). The former delivers in Europe, however, while the latter kicks off from Pakistan.

Transgrain also spent $28,000 a day, getting the 77,800-dwt Tai Promotion (built 2004) for five to seven months.

-----------------------------------------
Supramaxes (Index 23.600 USD/dagen)

$28,000 is also what the 56,100-dwt Prabhu Parvati (built 2003) and the 51,100-dwt Jin Quan (built 2002) each picked up for runs from India to China.

The 52,700-dwt Jin Cheng (built 2003) will take a roundtrip from China to Australia at $27,000 a day, the same as STX Pan Ocean spent on a voyage from the Black Sea to the Far East with the 42,600-dwt Mare Doro (built 1985).

The period market remained a bit weak with Pacific Basin spending $23,000 a day on four to six months with the 57,000-dwt Shropshire (built 2009).

The 55,700-dwt Bulk Neptune (built 2009) was taken for on average a months less at $1,000 a day shy of this mark.
