Panamax drive
Panamaxes drove a dry-bulk rally on Wednesday as the two main indices showed gains.

There was hefty activity in the Atlantic with lifts out of the US Gulf and Brazil hitting high rates, both for fixtures east and west. Ballast bonuses were also hefty.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------Capesizes (Index +2471 > 67.041 USD/dagen)

There was very little activity here by Hyundai Merchant?s fixture of the small 150,400-dwt Samsara (built 1995) from China to Brazil and back at $52,000 a day stopped the recent rot.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------Panamaxes (Index +337 > 29.585 USD/dagen)

Louis Dreyfus spent a huge $38,500 a day plus $750,000 on top for a lift out of the US Gulf to the Far East with the 72,400-dwt Fu Hua (built 1997).

CTP almost equalled this for a similar voyage, spending $36,000 and $670,000 for the 74,500-dwt Evangelia Petrakis (built 2006).

Cargill has the 76,600-dwt Navios Orion (built 2005) out of the US Gulf to the Med at $30,000 plus $650,000 and the 74,000-dwt Riruccia (built 1997) for an Atlantic roundtrip at $30,000 a day.

The agri-charterer also spent $34,000 a day and $650,000 on top for the 70,200-dwt Full Beauty (built 1994) to head from Brazil to the Far East.

The 70,200-dwt Fortune Sunny (built 1984) is also booked out of Brazil but to India at $34,000 per day.

Oldendorff booked an Atlantic roundtrip from Europe with the 75,800-dwt Ogna (built 2008) at $31,000.

Egyptian Bulk Carriers took the 70,200-dwt Full Strong (built 1994) from the Med to the Black Sea and back at $30,000.

In the Pacific the 91,800-dwt Sea Breeze (built 2009) commanded $33,000 a day for a roundtrip from China to Australia while K Line spent $29,500 a day plus $0.5m for the 76,600-dwt Torm Orient (built 2008) to leave Australia for Japan.

The 71,400-dwt C Iris (built 1996), 73,900-dwt Levanto (built 2001) and 72,400-dwt Ocean Favour (built 1998) were all taken for Asia-Pacific spins at $31,500, $31,000 and $30,000 a day, respectively.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------Supramaxes (Index -128 > 24.721 USD/dagen)

This sector continued to struggle and the 50,300-dwt Free Lady (built 2003) was taken for a short hop from Southeast Asia to China at $26,000.
