Aker builds new umbilical plant

Author: 2012-04-16 09:23:52

Norway's Aker Solutions announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art umbilical manufacturing plant in Pekan, Malaysia, to meet anticipated growth in the Asia Pacific region.

The company will invest $60 million in the new manufacturing facility on the east coast of Malaysia which is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2013.

"This new plant increases Aker Solutions' footprint in Asia and our capability to serve customers in the Asia Pacific region," said the head of Aker's umbilical business, Tove Roskaft.

"This investment gives us a strategic advantage in the already booming oil and gas market in the region."

The company said its new Malaysian plant would complement its existing umbilical manufacturing plants in Norway and the US.

Author: 2012-04-16 09:29:00

Singapore offshore services firm Ezra benefited from strong subsea operations to post higher earnings in the first half of financial year 2012.

The Singapore-listed company posted first half net profit of $35.4m, a 66% year-on-year jump. Group revenue rose 124% to $392.3m as revenue from the subsea services division improved 41% in the second quarter from the preceding quarter.

"The investment in Aker Marine Contractors, back in March 2011, is now paying off," said Lionel Lee, managing director at Ezra.

Looking ahead, Ezra expects its subsea construction fleet to be well utilised and earnings from EMAS AMC to increase in the second half of financial year 2012.
