LifeCycle Pharma announces Shionogi Pharma terminates Fenoglide® North
American commercialization agreement; no material financial impact on LifeCycle
Pharma 2010 outlook
LifeCycle Pharma A/S (OMX:LCP) today announced that Shionogi Pharma, Inc. has
terminated its North American license agreement for Fenoglide®. The
termination is effective February 23, 2011 or sooner if requested by LCP.
Fenoglide® is LCP's patented formulation of fenofibrate using its proprietary
MeltDose® technology. The product is approved for sale in the U.S. and is
indicated as a treatment for hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia. LCP
partnered with Sciele, Inc. on Fenoglide® in 2007. Sciele was subsequently
acquired by Shionogi in 2009.
To minimize any disruption in the availability of Fenoglide® to patients and
physicians, and ensure ongoing confidence in product quality and regulatory
compliance, LCP will assist in the resumption of U.S. manufacturing activities.
Cowen Healthcare Royalty Partners (“Cowen Royalty”) acquired the North American
royalty rights to Fenoglide® in 2008. LCP will assist Cowen Royalty in
resumption of manufacturing and commercialization of the product. As a
component of LCP's assistance to Cowen Royalty, LCP will also assume an
expanded responsibility in the ongoing patent enforcement of Fenoglide®. LCP's
role in the transitional Fenoglide® activities in North America will not impact
LCP'S financial outlook for the full-year 2010.
