THE top US trade official will raise the issue of Beijing's arrest of Australian Stern Hu and other Rio Tinto employees on espionage charges when he meets Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.
Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, in a CNN television interview during his official visit to China, said the issue was “of course a great concern with respect to US investors, multinational companies from around the world that have projects here, that are involved in energy”.

CHINA yesterday warned Australia to stay out of the Stern Hu case as the US administration directly raised concerns with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao about the jailing of the iron ore executive.
US Commerce Secretary Gary Locke has called for more transparency and better legal rights for Mr Hu as he met with Premier Wen in Beijing.
Mr Locke's representations came as China's Foreign Ministry delivered a veiled threat over continued "anti-Chinese" commentary from Australia.
The topic was raised at the ministry's twice-weekly press conference where spokesman Qin Gang said "noise" coming out of Australia on the case was an interference in the legal system of China.
"We are firmly against anyone stirring up the case and interfering with the independent judicial authority of China. This is not in the interest of Australia," he said.
Mr Qin also warned foreign companies doing business they had to respect Chinese rules.
"There is ... an old Chinese saying: A man of noble character acquires his wealth by honourable means," he said. "What does honourable mean? First, it's the law. We request foreign enterprises in China to abide by the laws and regulations of China."
