384 Canadian Solar: Q3 EPS Light; Sees Q4 Rev Collapse

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) this morning forecast a dramatic drop in revenues for the fourth quarter as the solar sector continues to struggle with falling demand.
For Q3, the company posted revenue of $252.4 million, above the Street at $248 million. But profits of 41 cents a share were 13 cents short of the Street consensus of 54 cents.
The shocker is the guidance: for Q4, the company now sees revenue of $70 to $85 million, just a fraction of the Street consensus of $270.1 million. For the full year, the company now sees revenue of $650 million to $750 million, well below the Street at $901.9 million.
In a statement, the company said that “given the uncertainty of project and customers’ financing coupled with softening solar market demand in Europe and USA at the year-end, the company has shifted its short-term operational emphasis to preserving cash and minimizing risk from the credit environment.”
Canadian Solar said it has postponed further expansion of its solar cell plant past the current capacity of about 270 MW, and will revisit capital spending plans in the coming months.
The company also cautioned that “due to the present market environment, adjustments to the balance sheet may be necessary in order to reflect the market value of inventory and receivables” that could result in a net loss for Q4. The company did say that it should be cash flow positive in the quarter. Canadian Solar says it has about $100 million in cash.
For 2009, the company said it is maintaining its guidance of 500-550 MW of production, while maintaining gross margin of 13%-15%. But the company also said that “a substantial increase in the cost of capital could put further pressure on module prices, while a decline in availability of debt or equity would impact demand.”
This morning, CSIQ is down 8 cents, or 2%, to $3.70.

nu de aktier er faldet så meget
og at de også oplever stærke fald i ordreindgang og forventet salg i 08 4q og 09 1q
såde kan hurtigt stige flere hundrede procent
hvis han leverer noget med 'kød' på
annoncering af en aggressiv politik mod alterrnativ energi incl. solenergi
kan blive en voldsomt trigger
